About Stephanie

I trained as a counselor first before I became a psychologist. The counselor identity is crucially important to how I supervise and view our work as mental health practitioners.

I got my PhD because I'm a nerd for research and love instructing, educating and training.

But rather than being the lone voice at the front of the lecture hall, I get to guide the next generation and improve our field through relationships.

AKA: Supervision.

Pssst...What's with the SEP behind your name?

I want to fill our field with relationally- and culturally-competent clinicians,

thereby expanding marginalized communities' access to

outstanding therapy.

Just like how we refine our theoretical orientation and cultural competence for clinical work, I've intentionally honed my supervision skills.

I have been supervising as a licensed psychologist since 2018. I have supervised LPCs, LCPCs, Postdoctoral Fellows and Licensed Psychologists. I was previously the Director of Clinical Training at Chicago Counseling Collective from 2021 to 2024.

Having experienced the transformative impact of high-quality supervision in my own development, I am passionate about creating similar growth affirming experiences for the next generation of clinicians and supervisors.

AKA: You.

Being a good clinician does NOT mean you are a good supervisor...

My Values

Intentionality

Choosing to act in alignment with what matters most rather than what is habitual or convenient.

No autopilot mode here!

Transparency

Expressing what's really going on with kindness and clarity rather than power or control.

Trust loves daylight.

Playfulness

Embracing humor and creativity as sources of vitality and resilience rather than distractions or excesses.

Silly and serious aren't opposites!

Connection

Listening deeply rather than out of obligation.

People over efficiency.

Authenticy

Being real and showing up as I truly am rather than performing or conforming.

Being human beats being polished.

Curiosity

Asking questions, seeking feedback and improving growth edges rather than striving for perfection or avoiding mistakes.

Letting my inner nerd shine!

Excellence

Refining my craft through care, attention to detail and integrity rather than over-controlling or over-functioning.

Caring about the details minus the urgency.
